Winterizing your pool with PoolRX
Before you install, let's get pool chemistry right. You are going to want to be in the levels provided here:
pH 7.2 - 7.8
Alk 80-120
CYA 20-100
Copper or Iron 0.2ppm or less
After levels are correct lets then clean the filter before you install. This is going to allow minerals to pass through the filtration system. Do not backwash the filter after this process is done.
With the pool pump running -Place the PoolRx+ unit in the skimmer or pump basket and you are all set.
Without a running pump - open the booster jar and pour the booster tablet in the skimmer/pump basket. Adjust the Free Chlorine to
3-5ppm. Target a lower pH 7.2-7.4. After chemical is applied, run the pump long enough for all the minerals to completely dissolve. Typically, 3-4hrs. (Longer is better)
Leave the unit in the skimmer or pump basket so it can recharge the minerals during circulation.
If the circulation pump RUNS in the off season use the proper sized "unit" based on total gallons.
If the circulation pump DOES NOT RUN use the proper size "booster" based on total gallons.
Tips:
If you are using a Cal-Hypo Granular Chlorine, be sure to dissolve and dilute before pouring into the pool. (All other types of chlorine can be used without extra steps.) Dilution can be done by pouring into a bucket with pool water and mixing prior to application.
Salt water Pools: target a lower pH 7.2 prior to installing PoolRx+ This is going to help dissolve the minerals much faster and effectively.
Do not use any other copper based products with Pool Rx+. (Copper should be at 0.2ppm or less prior to installation.) After the use of PoolRx+ you will not get an accurate Copper reading due to our strong chelation. This is normal.
When used as directed, PoolRx+ adds the right amount of minerals based on total gallons and PoolRx+ minerals are specially chelated protecting them at a molecular level prolonging the effectiveness and preventing fall out.
Do not use sodium bromide. Not compatible with bromine or biguanides.
PoolRx+ is an EPA registered algaecide and is NSF 50 certified.
Compatible with all pool surfaces.
FAQ
What type of chlorine can I use?
All types of chlorine are compatible with PoolRx. (IMPORTANT NOTE: If using Cal-Hypo granular chlorine (SHOCK), be sure to dissolve and dilute. BE SURE to dissolve each pound into a 5-gallon bucket of water before pouring in the pool slowly as you walk around the deep end of your pool, so it can further dilute.
Is more better? Can I overdose?
More is not better in this case. If you add too much mineral into your pool the granular mineral will not have room to dissolve and can stay in a granular form. It will settle at the bottom or float around and stick to scale turning it a blueish color.
What do I need besides PoolRX?
All you need with PoolRx is balanced pool chemistry and a constant residual chlorine level of 0.5-1.0 ppm. You can keep a higher level of chlorine if you wish.
Can I backwash during the first 2 weeks?
It is not advised to backwash during this time period as you need the minerals to be in the filter. However you can still vacuum to waste since that will bypass the filter.
How long does it last?
PoolRx and PoolRx+ minerals last up to 6 months.
Can I use in UV or Ozone pool?
PoolRx and PoolRx+ are safe to use with UV and Ozone systems.
Can I use bromine?
No. PoolRx is not compatible with bromine.
